Christmas hamsters are fun!

I have been a bit of a slacker this week. Missed two of my scheduled runs. Got a couple of early Christmas presents.. First is Lily.. She is 7 weeks old and is SO cute..

Then at our Chirstmas exchange last night I got runners mace!!! and Born To Run which I am excited to read!! :)

I realized this week that I would like to get more focused with my running goals.. I don't know any of my PRs (except the one I did for the mile and the 5K this week! Yay!). I think it would be nice to record my PRs and then try to get faster. The longest I have ever run is a half marathon in January of 2009 - a race I did not train well enough for and ended up with a injury to my left hip that took over a year to recover from (it still gets all sore and stiff sometimes ~ I am going to be screwed when I am 80 ~ hopefully hip replacment technology will be better by then).  ;)

Although I am nervous about halves now, I would like to try and train for another half marathon this year and run at least 3 or 4 of them to get the half comfortable and squared away. If I can acomplish this in 2011.. then in 2012 I'd like work on training for the big one.. the 26.2. Eeek!! I know I need to set up some races for 2011 so that I have something to keep me going.. It is so much easier to let my runs go when nothing is coming in the near future.

I am a little concerned however, that I am making my goals too easy or drawn out. I run about 25 to 30 miles a week right now and my long runs are around 9 or 10 miles (also I have been bumping my milage up by 10% every week) so maybe I am selling myself short.. Maybe I should push to run a 3 or 4 halves in the next 6 months and then work on training for the marathon and sign up the the actual marathon at the end of this next year. At the same time I want to take it slow to avoid injury. Ehh I dont know I will see how it goes.

We are going to a cabin in the snow (Utah snow!!) next week. I am so happy Christmas is almost here!!! 7 More days!!

  1. Lily is very cute. And you are one of the few runners I know who isn't obsessed with running times, not jumping into running a marathon after finishing her first 5k. You sure you don't have a fever?! (ha ha)

  3. Aw, Lily is so cute!

I also wanted to reply here in case you didn't get back to the blog replies.

Unfortunately, the wrist ones are not as accurate as the chest strap.

I also noticed a number of the wrist monitors actually require you to touch or squeeze sensors with your fingers so the readings would not be constant.

I also attempted to avoid the chest strap but in the end, I couldn't argue with the fact that chest strap monitors are the way to go.

  4. Lily is so cute!!! Good gifts you got!! Nice!! With that kind of mileage, you are well on your way to some solid half marathons and a full!
