Week 5 Update

January went by so fast!

I have been a bit MIA because we have had an influx of kids calling in to participate in the research study. Many of them are homeless so that means lots of driving on my end to get to them for the interview.  Man working with these kids really pulls on my heart.. I just want to take them all home with me. :(

Studying is going mostly okay. The time is drawing near.. March 4, 5, 6 ,7, and 17. Yikes. I am a bit behind because of all the assessments so I am taking this week to catch back up on that.

I got some good runs in last week which was great. I am house sitting in Pasadena watching 2 dogs and 3 cats at the moment. Dogs are great... they make such fun running partners. Near the house I am watching is are some great trails in Eaton Canyon so I have been running there lately whenever I get the chance.

I really missed reading up on everyones blogs.. It looks like everyone was super busy running and working!! So inspirational! You are all so awesome!

Below are some pictures I snapped of Ebert in Eaton Canyon. :)

Aww this makes me want a dog of my own. :)

This the "waterfall" trail

View of Pasadena 3 miles up.

Trail we came up to get to the top.

  1. Sooo jealous! It looks beautiful there! Your job definitely sounds like it could be heartbreaking, but it also sounds like you have an opportunity to make a difference for those kids.

  2. Reading your words about those children in need of homes makes me think of dear Heidie and her true selflessness and I think you are the same!

Thanks for cheering me on. I guess I am hopeful someone checks my blog every once in a while :). I appreciate you always making a comment.

Ben always tries to talk me into a dog and tells me that it would be a great running partner for me! I'm not quite ready for a dog.

Another great view of your runs. I'm so jealous! Will winter ever end here? I've got some serious winter blahs. I barely made it 2.5 miles with Ben this morning - I was suppose to get in an additional 5 miles! I'm not so sure I'll make my 20 miles this week!

Have a great week! Happy running!

  3. Cute puppy pictures!! What exactly are you doing your research study on? My thesis for grad school was on homeless youth! It was so sad to learn so much about. That's actually what I'd love to do for my job but it doesn't pay anything and unfortunately I need money :(

  5. Hey everyone! :)

    Thanks for visiting!

    Kate,
It is really fun living in SoCal. Very lucky as it is really pretty. :) I am really lucky to be working with the kids I work with. They really are great kids. :)

    Judi,
Heidie was/is so great.. she really helped me get to a point where I could pay it forward. I am so lucky to have her. :) I really enjoy your blog! I love seeing the kids. They are getting so big! I love that your family is so close and have these great fitness goals that you all complete together. Dogs are great but a lot of work I have discovered. Keep hanging in there.. Spring will be here before you know it!!

    Mallory,
Thanks I think Ebert is a cutie too. :) I actually am involved in two research studies. One examines high-risk preschoolers and their mothers. In the preschooler one I study the child’s play narratives. In the other I study former foster youth who have recently emancipated from the system. They are both longitudinal studies. The foster care one I actually run and coordinate myself. Those are the kids I have been interviewing like a mad woman. More often than not they are homeless after they turn 18 (emancipate). It is such a bummer that there is no money in research.. I bet you would be so great!

    Green Girl,
Thanks for the hugs! From what I read on your blog you are definitely helping to make the world a better place. :)

  7. It sounds like you are doing worthwhile work if it involves homeless children. Giving a voice to the voiceless is very important in today's world. And Ebert is adorable.

  8. Homeless kids. That's terribly sad. I just found out that one of my students lives on the streets. Gosh. I can only hope that tough times like that will make them tougher later.

Love the trail pics. Those are my kind of trails. Love the doggie too : ) Good luck with the studying!
